SAP and NVIDIA Partner to Accelerate Generative AI in Enterprise Applications

WALLDORF and SANTA CLARA, Calif. — SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) and NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) have announced an expanded partnership to enhance enterprise customers’ ability to leverage data and generative AI within SAP’s cloud solutions and applications.

The collaboration aims to develop SAP Business AI, integrating scalable, business-specific generative AI capabilities within SAP’s Joule copilot and across its cloud solutions. These efforts are supported by the SAP generative AI hub, providing instant access to a variety of large language models (LLMs).

As part of SAP’s initiative to embed generative AI into business applications, the partnership will help customers adopt AI capabilities at scale. SAP will utilize NVIDIA’s AI foundry services to fine-tune LLMs for specific scenarios and deploy them using new NVIDIA NIM™ microservices. The integrated capabilities are expected to be available by the end of 2024.

“Enterprise customers need advanced technology that delivers tangible business value,” said Christian Klein, CEO of SAP SE. “Our strategic partnership with NVIDIA is crucial to maximizing AI’s potential for business. NVIDIA’s AI expertise will help SAP accelerate transformation and better serve our cloud customers.”

“SAP’s vast enterprise data can be transformed into custom generative AI agents for business automation,” said Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA. “Together, we’ll bring custom generative AI to the global enterprises relying on SAP.”

Enhancing Customer Insights with Generative AI

SAP and NVIDIA plan to integrate generative AI into SAP’s cloud solutions, including SAP Datasphere, SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), and RISE with SAP.

SAP will expand generative AI capabilities within SAP BTP using NVIDIA’s AI foundry services, NVIDIA DGX™ Cloud AI supercomputing, NVIDIA AI Enterprise software, and NVIDIA AI Foundation models. These will form the basis for SAP’s generative AI development, accessible via SAP AI Core and SAP Datasphere.

Additional AI initiatives include:
  • Enhancements for the Joule copilot: Joule will use retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) capabilities from NVIDIA and SAP, deployable on leading hyperscalers or SAP’s cloud environments. As a generative AI copilot, Joule automates tasks and analyzes business data, delivering intelligent, personalized experiences.
  • Use cases with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP SuccessFactors, and SAP Signavio: SAP and NVIDIA are exploring over 20 generative AI use cases, such as intelligent invoice matching in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, improved HR applications with SAP SuccessFactors, and enhanced insights from SAP Signavio to optimize business recommendations and customer support.
  • Unified AI data sources with SAP Datasphere: Built on SAP BTP, SAP Datasphere integrates SAP and third-party data for a unified, semantically rich view, helping customers make informed decisions. NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platforms and AI Enterprise software, like NVIDIA RAPIDS™, will enhance ML workload performance and data access for data scientists.
  • Using LLMs for ABAP programming: SAP plans to use NVIDIA AI foundry services to fine-tune LLMs for the ABAP programming language, aiding developers in creating domain-specific code with the ABAP Cloud model and SAP Cloud Application Programming model.
NVIDIA AI Enterprise Enhances SAP Cloud Solutions

For deploying models in SAP cloud solutions, SAP will use NVIDIA AI Enterprise software, including NVIDIA NIM inference microservices and NVIDIA NeMo Retriever™ microservices. These tools will boost inference performance and add RAG capabilities, allowing generative AI applications to securely access data running on SAP software, improving accuracy and insights. Customers can use RAG on both SAP and third-party data.
